Anne Heaton Website | Facebook | Myspace | Tour Dates Anne Heaton's intriguing blend of musical styles is a reflection of a curious mind. Boston-based (Chicago native) Heaton once thought she would be a philosophy professor and turned down a classical piano performance scholarship offer from Berklee because-- as she said in a New York Times Online interview-- it was too inhibiting and exact. Instead, she attended Notre Dame, where she ended up in a cover band that ultimately turned her head around. Anne made her way to NYC where she played in a Latin band, toured Europe with Max Roach, sang in a gospel choir in Harlem and found her voice as a songwriter. With this eclectic background, Heaton also cites Peter Gabriel, Tori Amos and Indigo Girls as big influences, clearly demonstrating that as a songwriter, she has a broad palette to choose from. This approach to her craft earned her a "Top DIY Pick" from Performing Songwriter Magazine for her critically acclaimed debut Black Notebook (2002). The Washington Post called her sophomore release, Give In (2005) "tender, amusing, barbed and spiritual by turns", and touring in support of her records earned opening sets for Melissa Ferrick, HEM, Jill Sobule, The Pernice Brothers, Catie Curtis, Jennifer Kimball, Jonatha Brooke, Edie Carey and many more, as well as a West Coast tour with Jewel. Blazing Red, (March 3, 2009), is Heaton's latest offering. The raw honesty and emotional content of Blazing Red has resonated positively with audiences coast-to-coast, and New York Times Online praised 'Jump'-- the opening track-- "absolutely gorgeous." With a rapidly growing fan base, Heaton has an ambitious tour schedule that will have her criss-crossing North America for the remainder of 2009. |
